CAM Issue 73: Student Cooking
The central feature of Cambridge University Alumni Magazine Issue 73 was 'Student Cooking'. Art Director Paul Oldman decided to illustrate the feature using a series of 'bad cooking' recipes Smith had asked ex-students to supply. These would work tangentially to the series of student stories. A deliberately ugly, hard, flash-lit, and almost anti-food styling was chosen - the anti-thesis of the current contemporary food photography, to match both the narrative and timeframe. Photographer Tim Morris sourced the deliberately retro/kitsch student kitchen settings and shot the still-lifes.
CAM magazine was produced for the Development & Alumni Relations Dept of Cambridge University. Smith graphic design agency based in Cambridge and Norwich provided the magazine design and art direction for seven years on this award-winning university alumni communication.
